Looking Forward…

Poetry events to look forward to in 2014 include new collections from a list of great poets: Jen Hadfield (Picador) whose last collection – Nigh-No-Place –is one of my favourites; John Burnside (Cape) whose prolific quality output is astonishing; Selima Hill (Bloodaxe) a wonderfully absurd poet; Kei Miller (Carcanet) whose forthcoming title, ‘The Cartographer Tries to Map a Way to Zion’ is reason enough; Pascale Petit (Seren) – a preview of Petit’s rich and surreal poems from the forthcoming book is linked via her website; and Kate Tempest (Picador) whose compelling performance poem, ‘Brand New Ancients’ made me want to hear more.
And of course Stanza, Scotland’s international poetry festival in St. Andrews in March should kick it all off. All in all 2014 proves to be a good year for poetry.
