Glasgow to Lahore is a poetry translation project I’m currently involved in. Everyone is welcome to the event at the Mitchell Theatre, Glasgow on Thursday 21st May at 7pm featuring: Afshan Sajjad, Jim Carruth, Dr. Khalid Javaid Jan, Katherine Sowerby, Kishwar Naheed, Gerry Cambridge, Ali Akbar Natiq, Vicki Husband, Pakistan musician Sara Kazmi & musicians from Scotland playing together for the first time.
Leading lights of Lahore’s poetry and music scene along with contemporaries from Glasgow are united on stage for a unique evening of readings and music. They will share newly translated poems and musical collaborations which reflect the role that art plays in creating bridges between cultures.
Already firmly established in London by its original creators, Southbank Centre, we bring a taste of their events to our city as a pilot project, in a collaborative partnership between Glasgow Life, Celtic Connections, British Council and Southbank Centre (www.southbankcentre.co.uk).
